CITIZEN NEW TAMIL MOVIE REVIEW BY "YOUR PRABHU"

"Ultimate Star" Ajith Kumar in NINE different roles, "Shakalaka Baby" Vasundara Das, "Nachu Figure" Nagma, "Madipu Figure" Meena, "Mahanadhi" Hanifa, "Mann vasanai Fame" Pandian, 'Nizalgal' Ravi, Devan in a Latest Over expected movie of 2001 "CITIZEN". Story:

"CITIZEN" the first Over expected movie of this year. The movie starts as they project AJITH as a Mechanic with three extras with him. He has a Sad face with "DADI" and works hard in that shop. "VASUNDRA" is a Jollu and she is a kind of "Modern Girl who lives in a city" who falls in love with AJITH and Proposes him many times. That is a Typical Girl in Madras who goes to College for Name sake, Goes to Computer Center in the evenings, Go to Internet Center and chats with Guys in CA, Hell Freeze Over Dance floor etc etc. Any One who calls themselves as Modern Girl in Madras must do the Above HA HA HA HA HA !!! The height of comedy is every time VASUNDRA goes and says her love AJITH gives Advice to her. The movie goes like this for a while. Dream song etc etc. The first half hour of the movie is nothing but "VASUNDRA's" KONJALS on AJITH and Ajith rejecting them and giving Advice.

Then Ajith starts to Kidnap three VIP's. Here is where he starts his different roles. All the roles looks the same except for that Flash back "Fisherman" Role. To kidnap these three VIP's he gets into that "INDIAN THATHA" costume and the scenes are just the same as that of the INDIAN movie like standing before that COLLECTORS office in a Line, getting inside the Collectors office and when the Collectors Asks "who you are" the same reply to all of them "ANDIPATTI". Ajith to kidnap these three VIP's does do the same thing, Same Make Up with little bit of change which was odd and nothing special. Couple of MAKE UP were like the makeup we do for these 8th Standard FANCY DRESS competition for Kids. (SOLA KOLLA BOMAI KU PAINT ADICHU VITTTA MADIRI ). Coupe of Really unwanted scenes were introduced for nothing. One was AJITH acting like BATMAN with those Two big Teeth's and another one was AJITH flying like the person in the movie "THE MATRIX". These two brought nothing but a Irritating Laughter in the theatre. Ajith Kidnaps those three Government Official. I don't know what BATMAN and THE MATRIX got to do with CITIZEN.

Nagma gets introduced as a CBI Officer to take care of the case. This is the best part of the movie and NAGMA did a great job. She investigates the case and she founds that there was a village which had 690 people in it and it no longer exists and the only survivor of that Village is AJITH (CITIZEN). After a long time NAGMA has acted very well. Vasundra's Love goes side by side and a Hot dream song with Ajith comes in between all the confusion to mix some Masala to a Serious Odd subject. "CHIKI MUKKI KALLU MODHUDHE" was a great one and it's a typical "ICHAN KATULA MUYAN ONE" in VIP song. Both AJITH and VASUNDRA show their "THOPPAI" and I never expected Vasundra to have such a big "THOPPAI". A good feast for Our Jollus.

AJITH at last gets caught and then he is handed over to police and then he comes to a Court. The court looks like an Apartment Complex and was really funny to see such a Stupid Set up for a Crucial turning point of the movie. It exactly looked like a Bed Room with Two chairs and two "ARVA KOLARU" Judge sitting in the middle with a 386 Processor Computer and typing something. Then the Flash back. AJITH's dad who is another AJITH gets introduced as a fishermen and MEENA is his wife (WITHOUT JACKET). It seems that they are affected by the flood every year and they want a wall in their village. But the three officials who promised to do it for their village ate all the money. So AJITH & Co goes and ill-treats them. So these three villains gets pissed off and kills all the 690 people in that village and the only person who escaped from that village was AJITH. That's the reason he took the mission of punishing these people. At last its the court scene. AJITH demands a list of things that needs to be done like canceling the citizenship of all these people and gave lots of adivce etc etc etc and at last after 3 Hours and 20 mts the movie ends as AJITH joins VASUNDRA and people came out with a sad face.

AJITH KUMAR:

Ajith after his mega Super Duper hit movie "VALEE" is still struggling to find his way in his movies. "CITIZEN" was expected to be another VALEE for him. Except for that Fisherman Character all the others seems to be a very normal one. He must not have tried that "OLD INDIAN THATAH" character. The make up didn't suit him and it was just like "FANCY DRESS COMPETITION". Other than that he was as usual with a sad face and a DADI. One more thing is his "THOPAI". He is the only hero to develop such a big "THOPPAI" in span of a year. That too in the dance sequence his "THOPAI" was clearly visible. I think he must try to act in usual love stories as he is more fit to act "Love subjects" as he is the romeo boy of Kodambakkam.

VASUNDRA DAS & NAGMA:

Vasundra Das looks like a "Painted AYUDA POOJAI POOSANI KAYI" with a Big THOPPAI from the front and from the back she is normal like "Painted Thakali". I never expected her to have a "THOPPAI". Especially in that "CHIKI MUKI KALLU" song both Vasundra and Ajith were showing their "THOPPAI" and were having a big competition that whose "THOPPAI" is big. Its completely different VASUNDRA here in this movie when compared to her HEY RAM. She looks Cute but lacks in Acting, Dance and every other field which is required to act. But one thing is for sure. She was absolutely fantastic in that "CHIKI MUKI KALLU" song. Especially her costume in that song was Great. She needs to improve a lot in her acting to stay in the industry. If not it would be nice to hear her songs rather than watching on screens. Good Feast for Hot Summer.

NAGMA was the highlight of the movie and after a long time she comes to screen and did a great job in the movie. She comes as a police officer but does not wear the regular "Kakhi Pants". In another scene she shoots someone and inserts Gun inside her saree. HA HA HA!! I think they must have given a gun case than a inserting the Gun inside the saree !!!! It seems the background voice for her is "KULUKAL FAME" Anuradha. Good work Nagma and a great come back. She had more fans in the crowd than Vasundra.

LOLLU COMMENTS:

An over expected movie which didn't turn out to be a great one. Many felt that its simply a different form of Indian movie. Make up were not that great. Ajith did great in that Fisherman role. Vasundra was just to give some Masala to the movie. CITIZEN is nothing but INDIAN - "KAMAL" - "A.R. REHMAN" - "SHANKAR". The movie was too long and it lacks Good Comedy. Couple of songs were nice to hear. AJIT turning into BATMAN, and giving "THE MATRIX" pose were really unnecessary and it takes salt out of the food and one point of time people started to think if its a Serious movie or a Comedy movie. Too much of Dry subject is not good for current audience and no one wants to go to a movie and see Problems. The Thatha Make ups for AJITH looked like "SOLA KOLLA BOMMAI" with ASIAN PAINT and nothing special like "INDIAN" KAMAL. MEENA gets introduced and disappears. Lots and lots of familiar faces were introduced without using them properly. One example is "PANDIAN" who exactly looks like a person who sells "VAZA PAZAM in VANARPET MARKET". (VANARPETAI LE VAZA PAZAM VIKRAVAN MADIRI IRUKAN). Many movies came in the past with similar kind of subject and that's a big minus for this movie. All together CITIZEN is a movie with lots and lots of Flaws and a lengthy one to sit and enjoy for a Dry subject. Its better that new hero's stick on to Love Subject, Two or three Songs in Switzerland, Three fights etc etc rather than taking so much risk and end up with something like this. Except for few places AJITH is the same old one. The movie gets 40/100 from Lollu Express.

main thing abt the stunts in the film CITIZEN....Vallarasu Vaanjinathan Vijayakanth thothaaru Ajith stunts kitta... sema potti rendu perukkum yaaru sema DUBAKUR stunts viduradhunnu.... pappom next film of Vijaykanth "Narasimha" la mostly "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" maadhiri only Flyingnu ninaikkarean.

i didn't get time to watch citizen....but after your review....i think i have to reconsider...abt watching it in a theatre....spending 50bucks for ticket, auto..to udhyama theatre....and ofcourse the sravana bhawan.food after that........ hey why was there no mention abt the director....sharavan subbaiah....?atleat some where? i saw some scenes...the collectors office..just to keep the make-up part easy.and "innovative"..they have portrayed the handsome 'nizhalgal ravi' as a sottai kizhavan.....how stupid..isn't it?he himself..as you ritely said ,looked like a fancy dress participant. i dunno why ajith is trying stunts.....his face is unfit for expressions.
