OVERVIEW:

Tamil movie Industry had a great downfall as Pongal released movies didn't give any super hit movie. At least 10 movies get released on Tamil New year every year and it will be a feast for movie lovers to enjoy all of them. This year there is no Big Star's movie nor there are many movies that were released this year. Out of the three movies released for this Tamil New Year "Dumm Dumm Dumm" was over Expected than the other two movies "Little John" and "Badhri" as the movie is one of those "Madras Talkies Production" and it has a patch called "MANIRATHNAM" in it. STORY:

The story starts in a usual Manirathnam style slowly and steadly. Madhavan is a Young generation guy who enjoys his life in Madras going to HFO (HELL FREEZE OVER Newly Opened Dance Floor in Madras), Bowling, Besant Nagar Beach etc etc. Jothika is a female who dreams about everything in a small village (Typical Manirathnam Kind of Heroine who enjoys playing in Pond, Catching Fish and she sings a Song like Roja Madhubala). This time its JOTHIKA in PAVADAI and DAVANI ha ha ha ! One day Madhavan gets an invitation from his Dad who is a "Panaiyar" in that village and he goes to his village. He wants him to get married to "Jothika" who is a Village girl and who is his Friend's Daughter. But both Madhavan and Jothika does not like this proposal as MADHAVAN likes the Dance Floor Life in Chennai and Jothika wants to do her Engineering Degree. They decide to stop this proposal by playing a game which ends up in a Failure and they both get engaged.

A day before the Marriage day as usual All the "PERUSUS" sit and play RUMMY. Jothika's dad and Madhavan's Dad play each other like those Atlantic City Black Jack and they end up in a Fight as Madhavan's dad think that Jothika's dad cheated him in putting cards and this Silly fight becomes big and their marriage gets stopped as Madhavan's Dad Scolds Johika's dad. Before this fight Madhavan and Jothika starts to understand Each other talking about their fate that even though they are not interested in this marriage there is something which brings them together. The movie reaches the middle point as Jothika goes to City for studies and Madhavan as usual goes to Dance floor to continue his dance. I think we have to Ban Playing that Stupid cards in Marriage function, I hate that Game where all these "PERUSUS" sit together after Dinner with "VETHALAI POTTI" and playing that game as if they are going to appear for World Golf Championship in Atlanta and talking all Bull Shit possible in the earth and passing comments about the people.

Both Jothika and Madhavan meet again in Madras and Madhavan feels bad that he was the reason for all these things and starts to interact with her. From this point the movie Drags Drags Drags. They meet talk and go. Slowly they develop a feeling for each other sings couple of duets. Meanwhile Madhavan's dad meet Jothika in Manivannan's place and similarly Jothika's dad Meet Madhavan in a Court Case. Chinni Jayanth gets introduced as a Comedy Villan who immitates "NAYAKAN KAMAL" and he brings few Laugh. At last the truth comes to the picture that Jothika's dad did not do anything wrong in the MARRIAGE RUMMY Game and All of the sudden MADHAVAN's dad goes and falls on Jothika's Dad's feet and asks him to forgive. This is something like a Cartoon Movie Where TOM and JERRY fight for nothing and the end is like KASTURI RAJA movie where they fight for nothing and join for nothing. At last Madhavan and Jothika joins their hands for nothing. One can see people walking out of the theatre with a Sad face with no expression of seeing a Good Movie that too from Manirathnam and Madras Talkies.

MADHAVAN:

After his previous three release Madhavan is still trying to hang out with a name called as Super Young Generation Hero. He has to act and he needs to prove himself that he is different than others or else he is going to be another Young generation hero who will disappear after a 'Fever' of that hero is over. No big Dance moments in his movie or no big Catchy performance in this movie. I think He was better in his previous movie 'Minnale' where he was more active. After Seeing his performance in 'Alaipayudhey' all his other movies are normal and Average. But i think the young generation College going Girls will for sure like him. Other than that a Very Normal and Average performance from the latest "Hot Hero" in Kollywood. In one song he comes with that BIG PANAYAR MEESAI sign for doing "PANAIYAR" roles. We expect a lot from you and hope he will be with us.

JOTHIKA:

Jothika was Good and Equally Bad. This is the first movie in which she comes with her PAVADAI and DAVANI and she looks good in few places . People just Hate her or Love her. Actingwise she is better than many heroines but at the same time she irritates with Over action some times. She was well suited for this role and she didn't over act. That was one good thing. One thing is for sure. She has developed a very good "THOPAI" in the course of time. The initial scenes in which she dreams and talks with Madhavan were really cute and its for sure a feast for Jothika fans. But if you expect a "KUSHI" Kind of Jothika you dont get it in this movie. A "VEERA PANDI KOTAYILE" kind of Dance in "TANJORE TEMPLE" was good and she looked great in it. Other than that a Well Shaped and well acted JOTHIKA in this movie. I liked her in this movie. She has to take care of her THOPAI and Over Weight ! Other than that she is a Big OK !!!

As a big fan of Manirathnam movies I always love to watch his movie. Every time I write a Review on his movies this page is filled with Lots and lots of Praise. No doubt that he is a talented person. His previous movies "NAYAKAN", "MOUNA RAGAM", "ANJALI", "AGNI NATCHARAM", "ROJA" were touch of Class movies. He started to take commercial versions from his "ALAIPAYUDHEY". But this movie is one which does not fall under any of the above category. His Assistant director "AZHAGAM PERUMAL" was given a chance to direct this movie. Although there was a 'Touch of Class' in direction, Screenplay and Photography there was Many things missing which we normally expect from Mani's movies.

1. First of all the movie was very silly and it was like watching that "ROJA" Marriage sequence of ARAVIND SWAMY and VAISHNAVI for 2 and 1/2 Hours which no one can stand.
2. Second thing "MADHAVAN" didn't deliver what he is supposed or what he did in his previous movies. I thing he was good in his previous Movie "MINNALE" than this one.
3. Third thing there is No big fan follow for JOTHIKA like Simran. People either Like her a lot or Hate her to earth although she is improving a lot.
4. Fourth thing no one want to see TV DRAMA artist doing a Main role in the movie as Father's of JOTHIKA and MADHAVAN. I am seeing both of them for the first time.
5. Fifth thing "FIGHT DEVELOPED" in the marriage for "PLAYING RUMMY" Was so irritation.
6. Unlike other Manirathnam movies songs were not up to mark although couple of them were nice to hear.

Karthik Raja did a great job with his tunes. Vivek was a Big upset after seeing him in his previous "MINNALE". I was watching this movie in NEW JERSEY. I got comments from Lots and lots of friends who watch movies in FREEMONT, CA. Everyone felt the same. There was many thing missing in this movie which people expected from such a class director. MADHAVAN was average or below Normal, Jothika was Cute / bad and she is improving a lot. Songs were average and music was great. Its Mani's Assistant director AZHAGAM PERUMAL's encounter and its a average stuff. I think when you come out of theatre you must feel great or you must love that movie or you must feel like watching again. For sure there was no such feeling for anyone after watching this movie although there was touch of class in few places which lost in a silly and dragging story line. All together "DUMM DUMM DUMM" is a big Upset for Tamil Cine fans who are waiting for this movie. The movie gets 50/100 for Mani's touch and few cute scenes by Madhavan and Jothika.
