"FIRE" - Movie Review By YOUR "PRABHU"

DEEPA MEHTA Presents "FIRE". This movie was banned in INDIA for the story line. SHABANA AZMI, NANDITA DAS, JAAVED JAAFERI, KULBUSHAN KHARBANDA, and RANJIT CHOWDHRY stars in a Revolutionary Story. MUSIC by Supreme Star A.R. REHMAN. I am late in reviewing this movie but I thought I will share some thing happening in INDIA with you all. Enjoy my review and write to me what do you think about this movie.

"FIRE" OVERVIEW:

There was one season in INDIA where people were craze about "AAA" movies. Not only College Students or age group between 18 and 30, even "PERUSUS" in the age of 50 and 60 will flow LITERS OF JOLLU Before the Posters of SILK and JAYA MALINI. Theatres like MOTCHAM, RAJA KUMARI, SAYANI who are famous for releasing these kinds of movies were TEMPLE for those JOLLUS. All that they want is a "BIT" after the Interval. I hope everyone knows what is meant by BIT, I think the time has changed Big directors and Story Writers have started to think about the reality. Example DEEPA MEHTA a great writer... has taken a step ..... Although Its " ABOVE INDIAN STANDARDS and INDIAN CULTURE" this Movie FIRE has made a great revolution in INDIA .... The movie is about two females becoming LESBIANS. Although its very common here in USA to here about GAYS and LESBIANS, I think in INDIA its too much. Read my review and mail me !!! ""

STORY :

          A middle class family with two brothers and their wife's and a Old lady living in a Normal Middle Class North Indian Neighborhood. SHABNA HASMI and KULBUSHAB the elder pair and NANDITA DAS and JAAVED JAAFERI, the younger one. All that the big brother does is go behind "SANYASI" , "GURUJI" and watching RAMAYANAM, MAHABARATHAM for 24 Hours, Sitting with "UDRATCHA KOTTAI" and doing SIVA POOJA, COW POOJA, CROCODILE POOJA and "UDUMBU" POOJA!! Eating Carrot, Beetroot and Potato and doing talking about God to his Eagerly waiting Wife SHABNA HASMI !!!!

          The Second brother JAAVED JAAFERI, husband of NANDITA DAS. All that he talks is JACKIE CHAN, BRUCE LEE, KUNG FU, KARATE, SUMO WRESTLING, CHINA, BEIJING, PEKING and has posters of all CHINESE stars in his room and dating a CHINESE GIRL even after marriage. He runs a video shop which has all MATTER MOVIES. NANDITA DAS, An extremely good selection has all the desire which all INDIAN FEMALE has after getting married. But all that our guy thinks about is going to HONK KONG and is not caring the newly married female NANDITA ?.

         Now the actual story starts. These two females (Sister-in-law's) who are fed up with their husbands behavior slowly starts to become close. Both talking about the problem they are having with their husbands. The Story line which was EXCELLENT till that time takes a BIG TWIST, which was really ODD and I was not able to Digest what i saw. These two females becomes "LESBIANS LESBIANS LESBIANS" to satisfy their needs. I think this is too much for INDIAN STANDARDS !! One day the Big brother happen to see both of them in BED doing it. Then the problem starts. NANDITA DAS leaves her husband and comes out of home. SHABANA HASMI explains to her husband but all in vain. She also leaves her husband and joins NANDITA DAS. The movie ends as Both of them Joining together as LESBIANS and starting a new life...

SHABANA HASMI & NANDITA DAS:

I was really shocked to see SHABANA HASMI in that movie. I think SHABANA HASMI and SMITH PATEL are two extremely talented artist in INDIAN movie industry. That too in a BED SCENE with another Girl. But these two girls has done Extremely good in this movie. Especially NANDITA DAS, a young girl who has really good features suits exactly to the character. I want to ask one thing what made SHABANA to accept this roll. I mean when the director said that the STORY IS LESBIAN or GAY Oriented how come a great artist like SHABABA HASMI can agree to it. NANDITA DAS has done a good job in her acting. Looks extremely beautiful. But i don?t know what is this movie about. What are u trying to say !

I want to grade this movie in TWO ways. I want to analyze the GOOD AND BAD ASPECT of this movie. I want to say some thing to the reader of my Review. I hope you will agree with me. PLEASE MAIL ME THE COMMENTS. I will post it in my Page so that it will be a MESSAGE FOR ALL OF US !!

BAD ASPECT:

The movie has been banned in INDIA. Some said to me that they re-released it after editing few scenes. I think the story line was excellent except for showing those BED SCENES that too TWO FEMALES ....... I don't want to write it. I want to know what the director want to say to the public

1. DO U DONT WANT A GUY TO WATCH RAMAYANAM OR MAHABARATHAM

2. DO U DONT WANT A GUY TO BE STRAIGHT FORWARD CALM GUY

As an author of Lollu Express what i understood was IF THE HUSBAND IS NOT MEETING GIRLS DEMAND then they will become LESBIANS LESBIANS LESBIANS that to with SISTER-IN-LAW in a joint family or if the GIRL is not meeting Husbands demand they will become GAYS GAYS GAYS GAYS or what! IS that what the story meant. I THINK THAT IS TOO MUCH. It above INDIAN CULTURE and insulting the INDIAN JOINT FAMILY CONCEPT ....

GOOD ASPECT :

I think MEN IN INDIA must be considerate. People in INDIA think that being a MALE is a big thing or feeling proud to be a MALE or Slapping a female when she does something or Scolding her for nothing, Drinking etc etc. We here in USA lead an excellent life with. We dont have any problem like joint family or what ever may be, We have an excellent way of living. I am single and dont know what is the situation after marriage or what a female expects from her husband etc. But i think a great writer like DEEPA METHA will not do some thing that is bad for our community. So GUYS Be considerate and FEMALES adjust to your Guy.......

I think the days have gone : "KAL ANNALUM KANAVAN PULL ANALUM PURUSAN" days are gone. But directors must also be considerate like not showing LESBIAN Scenes to public.HOPE SHARUK KHAN, AMIR KHAN, SIMRAN and KUSHBOO will not act in another movie like this doing GAY AND LESBIAN CHARACTERS. I grade this movie to be and EXCELLENT GOOD MOVIE !! TRY TO GET ONLY THE GOOD MESSAGE given and try to avoid and forget the LESBIAN SCENES shown !! I grade this movie to be 70/100 and PLEASE MAIL ME WHAT DO U THINK.
