Agree that Bhagyaraj used to be a star director. But his "Gnanapazham" was horrible and it sucked!! Even though "Idhu namma aalu" was very hilarious, it was quite offensive to Brahmins. Reportedly he first screened it to his mentor's wife (Janaki ammaal - MGR's wife, a Brahmin) who left the show in the middle without even saying a word about the movie. Later, when Bhagyaraj called her on the phone she loudly farted it seems, to let her anger out! She stopped talking to him. He took offense of that and then switched to Jayalalitha's faction and made several more inflammatory statements irking Brahmins. That is what is India!!

Anyway, thalaiva, Lollusatya! Now I know who you are! You are from the same building as my Suseela chiththi and Krishnakumar chiththappa! I am such a good friend of your father. I used to sit in the terrace of your building with your father and eat "sundal" with him and discuss politics, art, culture, drama, cinema, news, philosophy, sociology, cosmology etc with him! He used to be worried a lot about you! He used to lament "I don't know what to do with my son Satya. He is generally roaming around in the streets of T.Nagar looking for girls, boys, animals etc. I don't know when he is going to thirundhufy!! I hope he takes life seriously and make some progress!".

I can now see that you have made some progress! It is such a nice thing to meet one of my old friends son through Lolluexpress! Thanks Prabhu!Narayanan.

I totally agree with Dr. Narayan. It was offensive to the brahmins. I remember my paatti getting irritated after seeing this movie. In fact, my family members didn't want me to see this movie. Moreover, if Dr. Sir doesn't like this movie, then I also don't like this movie. He is my Guruji. Dr. Narayan ki jai!!!!!!

I didn't expect a review for this movie in the Classics section. Bhakyaraj is a very good director. But I feel his Anda Yelu Natkal can be added to Classics & not this one. Infact hum dil dhe chukey sanam is a modern version of that movie. As Dr said, it's kind of hurting to some community. Even Bharathiraja took a movie about a brahmin & non-brahnim relation - that's "Vedham Pudithu" This should be a classice movie and not idhu namma aalu, though he tried to say something good at the end.

Even i felt the same ! The scenes where he Changes POONOOL and all are too much. A guy like me who really does not think about all those Tradition (Not that i Dont want to) But some how i dont follow. Even today my Mom Scolds me a lot for that! It seems There was a strong Comment from the BRAHMIN community for that movie. But thats ok ! If you see some BARADIRAJA's movies its more Worst,

But MADA THALIVARE (Dr. NARAYANAN) you must appreciate the phase of the movie. Too Good. Especially the way he clearly explains at the end ! The CLIMAX was too good. I totally forgot this world and was very much impressed with BAGYA!!

Regarding SATYA, He is simply superb and our OKIE SOFT missed a Valuable and funny Guy! It would had been "RAJESH, PRABHU & SATYA" combination in our meetings and Christmas Party! Just imagine Dr. Narayanan & co.

Did you know where Bagyaraj got his dancing skills from? He studied in my school in coimbatore and he used to visit our school functions and he exceptionally thanked our PT master for his dancing skills. Every Monday we have PT classes from 3 to 6 in hot sun. That master exactly teaches the same Rasuktty bagayaraj steps in the class thats what he uses in his movies for dance movements.

Hey Prabhu

This time i am not going to comment on your movie review or Bhagyraj's 'Idhu Namma Alu'..But a general view on the subject as you know me very well. I am a Brahmin but not a castiest!!. I am sure, my write up would take this discussion to a different direction.

I dont know if this movie was offensive to Brahmins. But there are so many bull shit movies which are..inclusive of Kamal Movies. Especially brahmin girls are the target. They are always portrayed as arrogant and bad. The character of the whole community can not be adjudged with few's behaviour. In fact, in my own home town, Sankarankoil (Tirunelveli), there are near by villages where Thevars wont allow Harijans to enter their house or dine with them. Same case with Naidu's in coimbatore, Gounder's in Salem,Erode , Nadar's in south, Chettiars, Mudaliars etc etc. But they r all good and come under so called 'Dravidians'. They also enjoy all sorts of reservations and benefis because they r 'downtrodden'. No Film directors ever dare to bring this in screen. They are afraid. I know what would happen in Villupuram, If a film shows a Vanniar girl falling in love with a Harijan Boy. Even if they show, the 90% of the movie will show Vanniars as the best and then there wud be a small frame showing the love. I wud have appreceiated the film, if Bhagyaraj had not gone deep into criticising Brahmin's behaviour, ethics and culture.

Even though i am a Brahmin, i m from a very poor, below poverty line family. i have soiled my hand evrywhere. worked in shops to earn bread  for me and had to score 99% to get into a ordinary prof. college. I dont need any reservations, i m confident of myself. There are many in other castes who are in a worser position than me. But i am sure they r not benefitted from the reservations. The 'POCKET ROMIEOs' with Hero Honda enjoys them.

If anybody has gone to GCT, CIT coimbatore, anybody wud ask if u know Telugu, ...to now if u r a Naidu. The whole city is full of money with industrialists from the same community. Did they all get it from Heaven? Bhagyarj from the same community  shud bring this up too...

My sister works for a government organization and keeps telling that she has to quit the job and go to a different state. Everytime she is offended by the caste name. Its difficult to digest if ur dear and near are offended for no fault of their own.

The politicians and the Film directors in Tamilnadu are of no use. They are able to do little for the community and the state. All that they were able to achive was to offend a small community which doesnt have a good strebgth in population ...for their own benefits. I think the way of speaking should completely change in TN. we should know how to respect others for what they are.

I think u know, i am different. I DONT ASK CASTE NAME TO ANYBODY. At the same time if i know, i respect them what they r.

The 'GUTSY' film directors in TN, should bring to light everything that goes around..to prove that they are males..(May be too much...)..

Dear all,

I admit bhagyaraj makes movie that sucks for some time now but it is because he lost the audience frame when most of the autorickshaw guys became literate(ah ah ah ah ahhh uh nobody else is laughing O.K), but during is peak people used wait for his movies to come out because he dared to speak somethings that are only whispered in someone's ears in the night and added an good message to the film.

His films were like an fashion magazines semi nude pictures tasteful but not vulgar, as the society aged it demanded more vulgarity, thats when his movie started stinking. He stopped giving good message and started making movie just with vulgarity, also he went through middle age crisis started acting like M.G.R.(generally mad).

But he is like a wine maker his wines might taste funny fresh, awful little older, perfect when they are aged. I believe we might yet have to see Bhagyaraj's great work. Prabhu thanks for putting things in a perspective where everyone can appreciate some humor in it.

Prabhu, that was a nice review. I should have seen the movie but some "perusus" in my family prevented me from seeing that. Magane, I still remember that day when I was going to watch that movie with my friends. My grandpa's cousin who always used to sit in a "ithu ponna thennai" (Verandah) doing nothing except chewing "Vaethellai" (Betel leaves) and talking as if he ruled the world. The more comical part was rubbing the knees while talking nonsense. Their standard dialogue would be "Naangallam andha kaalathule...." (In those days). I used to think.... "Mavane antha kalaathle yenna panaenga..nu yenakku theriyatha yenna....how many girls he would have daavu adichified??? Ithu ungalukke konjam overa theriyele". Irrunga, When I too becoma a perusu, I will also repeat the same dialogue.....magane........

I think when ever i write about movie reviews like this the response and the HEAT LOLLU EXPRESS is creating to our readers is tooooo much. As an author I consider to be MY success! Its a good sign for the growth of our Express.

Old movie reviews is for sure a PLUS to our page and your comments really make me more sharper! I was writing this review at Night 1 o'clock ! I think when u are in that Hot mood you have to vomit to get the good Result.

Regarding SENTHIL VELAN comments I think you are wrong senthil. He is such a talented director. I already got nearly 20 Comments from our readers who read our reviews from Web page! I know that its going to create a hot wave as the topic is related to "IYERS & BRAHMINS" ! i am not a BRAHMIN and i really dont believe in all those. ALL my good friends are IYERS and BRAHMINS including our DR. NARAYANAN!

I think if u imitate any COMMUNITY they will really feel bad ! its all depends on how you take it. Thats the reason i DONT WANT TO WRITE ANY THING related to BRAHAMIN or any other .... BAGYARAJ in that movie really did a cool job as what ever he was doing was in a funny way!

Bhagyaraj is a great director talented, down to earth guy who did'nt have to go to film school unlike manirathinam (who is a complete as...le because he refused to take a picture with me when i met him, to publish in L.E). But you must make money or make movies that bring home a truth, Bhagyaraj did both sometimes and did it with style and humour. Movies like "Andha Ezhu nallkal " were funny and seemed to focus on the middle class attitudes, when Balumahendra & Balachander were making same and not very funny at that(I found these at that time to be very depressing), I remember used to sit expectantly on sunday to watch DD(>13 yrs ago before the cable days) and if I see balumahendra or balachander name on film ran out of the house and played cricket with friends(Madras Days)."A.A" Senthil.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dear All,
